Suit Up

Suit Up

When your best friends are getting married in Taos, New Mexico, and the theme is Southwestern chic, AND the wedding is being held at a vintage trailer hotel, naturally one thinks, “Right. Time to make some outrageous matching suits for myself and my boyfriend.”

Inspired by the matchy-matchy outfits of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, 70’s Western apparel, and the flare of Nudie Cohn, I handmade myself a three-piece-suit and my boyfriend just two pieces. Utilizing the traditional tailoring techniques I learned in school and through bridal alternation, I created two outfits that received a standing ovation as we walked to the ceremony. There were definitely bumps along the way - altering 30 pattern pieces for my boyfriend, making on the spot pattern pieces, sourcing the right notions and threads - but in the end bring my designs to life was an incredible feeling.
